How To Get Noticed After You Apply To The Job

Several companies are continuing to complete layoffs, which can be very discouraging for job seekers looking for their next opportunity after a layoff. Not to mention seeing that the job you’re interested in already has over 200 applicants. So what now? What should you do? Should you apply, or should you move on to the next opportunity?

Several companies are continuing to complete layoffs, which can be very discouraging for job seekers looking for their next opportunity after a layoff. Not to mention seeing that the job you’re interested in already has over 200 applicants. So what now? What should you do? Should you apply, or should you move on to the next opportunity? 

Check out the tips below to help get your application noticed out of the hundreds of other applicants. These tips will help if you don’t have a connection at the company yet and will help you prepare. 

  1. Are You Ready For A Reply

Before you get noticed, is your LinkedIn page ready to be viewed, or are other social media pages not marked private? Or have you completed your research on the company to be prepared to ask questions or speak about why you applied? These are the things you should do first. A tip to help with staying organized with your applications is to keep a tracker of the jobs you’ve applied to and your status, and you can jot down notes on each company, so you’re ready to quickly speak to why you’re the best candidate for the job. There’s nothing worse than being excited to hear back and feeling like you’ve been caught off guard because you’re not prepared. It would be best if you had an attitude of expectancy. You’re expecting to hear back; therefore, you’re ready.

2. Reach Out To A Recruiter At The Company

You don’t have to know the recruiter on the job to reach out to a recruiter at the company. Reaching out to a recruiter at the company is the quickest way to get an update and get the recruiter’s attention to your application. I’ve received several emails from applicants in the past, and I was not the recruiter or Hiring Manager, but upon receiving the request, I would reach out to the recruiter or Hiring Team to have them follow up with an update. So I know it works, and I have also sent requests to recruiters. It’s as easy as sending a note to connect to learn more about the company and seeing if they could assist with sharing an update with you on your application or pointing you in the right direction. You will not always get a response from a recruiter; sometimes, you may notice you got a rejection email. Although it may not be the update you wanted, you still now have an update on your status, and now you can focus your efforts on your other applications. 

3. Follow Up

So you’ve done steps 1 and 2 and still haven’t heard anything. Don’t be afraid to reach out again to the recruiter or another recruiter. A good rule is to reach out at least three times. If you don’t receive an update after three attempts, you may want to consider whether this is a company you’re interested in continuing to move forward with or if you wish to wait and see if they respond. The unfortunate reality is that not only candidates ghost companies but companies as well.
