5 reasons why your resume may not be getting you the interview

Are you tired of submitting resumes and wondering why you may not be getting any callbacks? There may be a reason why your resume is not getting you the results you want to see. 

Check out the five sections on your resume that may be preventing you from getting the interview. The best resume to submit is the combination resume which is a little bit chronological and functional.

Resume Guide 

  • Summary – The summary section is a great way to highlight your expertise, but are you saying too much or too little? Keep the summary section to 2-5 sentences at max. Be sure to highlight the experience that is most relevant to the role.

  • Address – Are you including your address on your resume? There is no reason to include your full address on your resume. If you’re moving out of state and looking for an opportunity, you may want to remove your address. In the application, you can state specifics that you are moving and the timeframe and speak to this during the interview. The only address that needs to be included is your email address.

  • Skills Section – If you don’t have the skills or expertise section, consider adding one. Including this section will help with ensuring you have a space to include your expertise. This will also help the ATS (applicant tracking system) and or recruiter quickly see if you have skills for the role.

  • Experience Section – Avoid writing a paragraph for this section and use bullet points instead. Using bullet points will help the recruiter quickly skim your resume to see your experience. When writing your bullet points, keep them to 3-5 and highlight your accomplishments, not your job responsibilities.

Lastly, this is not a section but still applies to why your resume may not be getting you an interview. Are you applying to job postings that are older than 14 days? The early bird gets the worm, which is usually true with job opportunities as well, depending on the job and level. To increase your chances, set up job alerts so you can be quick to apply when you find the right opportunity.
